Paul McLean has been training martial arts, since 1983. His first class was in Tae Kwon Do. He also took lessons between 1983 and 1992 in a diversity of self-defense/healing/personal realizations systems, such as Tai Chi, Chi Gung, Bagua, Hsing I, Chin Na, Goju-ryu. In 1992, Paul began studying Muay Thai with Doug Pandorf at Warrior Priest Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He took seminars with the school’s Master Ajarn Chai (Surachai Sirisute). Warrior Priest Arts - now ANK Santa Fe Muay Thai - also provided instruction in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Kali/Eskrima. The BJJ came from the Machado Brothers, the Eskrima from Dan Inosanto. In the mid-90s Paul moved to Nashville, TN. He began providing striking instruction, first with sparring partners and students, then with the Combat Submission Club. Over the course of his consistent MMA studies, Paul hasattended classes and workshops at many schools, including memorable sessions with Bob Chaney (CA), at Smalls Gym (WV), Trinity Boxing (NY), Gleason’s Gym (NY), Evolution Muay Thai (NY) and Renzo Gracie (NY). For the committed martial artist Paul advocates a variety of supportive, holistic practices, including yoga, meditation, sound diet, massage and other forms of advanced body work, such as Active Release Chiropractic. Over the past decade, Paul has devoted significant study to the remarkable advances in MMA, as demonstrated in promotions like UFC, Bellator and others. He looks forward to sharing his love and knowledge of the martial arts with the NWC communities serviced by Valhalla, and helping individuals achieve their martial arts potential.
